Perceptions are amazing and frightening things. I wore my pentacle on the bus today; in comes a young woman with three kids. She spies the star around my neck- I see fear in her eyes…she steers the little ones away.
They sit by an old, dark-skinned gentleman. They chat amiably. He touches the littlest girl’s shoulder- the mother laughs. The girl smiles.
The mother never notices the electronic prison bracelet around his ankle. He looks at me, winks, and I turn my eyes to the window. A storm is coming. I wait.
